Since 2000 the cattle enterprise on Moffitts Farm has been based on buying in weaner or yearling Angus steers and finishing them on pasture over 8 to 12 months. In 2012 a self-replacing Wiltipoll flock to produce prime lambs off pasture was introduced. Wiltipolls shed their wool during spring. Trade cattle have become the climate variability “escape valve” with their number adjusted to suit prevailing pasture growth and to ensure agroecology requirements are maintained.
