Australian food production and prices

This section is devoted to statistics surrounding Australia’s major broadacre food and fibre commodities. Emphasis is placed on showing trends. Most data is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) as well as Meat Livestock Australia (MLA), Australian Wool Innovations (AWI),  and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Co-products are an important source of income for Australian livestock processors and include offals (edibles like heart, tripe); meat and bone meal (MBM); tallow; and hides. Co-product value per head varies between animals based on quality and weight, but with over 8 million cattle processed each year at an average of around $150 per head, the income generated is significant.
